Chief Minister expresses profound condolences on demise of former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee

Raipur, Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh today expressed his deep condolences on the demise of former Lok Sabha Speaker Mr. Somnath Chatterjee. In a condolence message released here, Dr. Raman Singh mentioned that in the death of legendary political stalwart Indian democracy had lost a profound thinker, great democrat who believed in human values, intellectual par excellence, able administrator who was close to the masses, forever. Dr. Raman Singh expressed his sympathies to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

Chief Minister recalled that Mr. Somnath Chhatterjee had visited Chhattisgarh in the year 2005 on 14th November, when he inaugurated the Assembly Speakers- Chairmen of Councils’ and Secretaries Conference. Mr. Chatterjee expressed his keen interest in the development of the then newly formed State and wished a bright future for Chhattisgarh. His election to the Lok Sabha for ten times is the proof that he was popular among the masses for his dedicated work.

Dr. Raman Singh recalled that when he was also MP he had learnt a lot from the versatile genius Mr. Somnath Chatterjee. He had done a great job as Lok Sabha Speaker from 2004 -2009. He was easy-going and had friends cutting across party lines. He was respected by one and all and he will be remembered for a long time to come.
